Hi, I’m Dr Mxolisi Brendon Shongwe, Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Chemical, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment. I’m also the owner and creator of this website, which I use to share my academic work, research, and professional journey.

Between 2015 and 2020, I was honoured to be listed among the top 500 African researchers based on scholarly output, according to SciVal, a global research analytics platform. During this period, I produced 104 scholarly outputs—contributing to the advancement of knowledge in metallurgical and materials engineering.

I hold a Bachelor of Science Honours (awarded Best Final Year Student), a Master’s degree, and a PhD in Metallurgical Engineering—all from the University of the Witwatersrand. In addition, I have an Advanced Diploma in Vocational Teacher Education from Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences in Finland, where I am currently also completing a Master’s in Education Management.
